Step 1. Pick The Keywords For Your Website
If I search for ‘apples’ I want to find a website about apples not one about oranges. Having relevant keywords for you website is the difference between getting visitors who spend money and visitors who just waste your bandwidth. Picking your keywords is not easy and takes practice so find out more on Picking Your Keywords
Step 2. Tune Your Website for Those Keywords
You should use your keywords as often as possible on your website but never so much that in detracts from your reader’s experience. There is no point having a website that the search engines think is brilliant if human visitors cannot understand it. See Tuning Your Website for specific advice.
Step 3. Create Something People Want to Read
Getting people to your website is only that start. You need to keep people there and you can only do this by creating content people want to read. Your website needs to be informative or entertaining or ideally both. All the time you are creating your content, remember your keywords and keep using them.
Step 4. Start Building Links
If you have done Step 3 right, then this step is easy. Find bloggers and websites interested in your keywords and send them emails highlighting your content. Don’t pretend to be anyone but yourself and don’t hype your website. A simple email introducing yourself with a link to your content will do. If your content is good and relevant, the bloggers will want to link to it. Remember, bloggers have to keep churning out new posts. If you send them something that they can easily turn into a new post, you have done most of their work for them and few bloggers ignore a chance to make their lives easier.
Step 5. Write Articles on MiceLife
You can never be sure what you will get from the bloggers in step 4. In many cases it will be a simple link and a couple of sentences about your site. These will help your search engine placement but with so little to go on, its hard for the search engines to tell the difference between a spam link and a meaningful link. With articles on MiceLife you are giving the search engines what they want: Long articles focused on a narrow topic with only a few outbound links. A link to your website from a good article sends strong signals to the search engine so it is worth putting in a bit of time to making sure the articles are right. See the step by step guide to writing killer articles
Step 6. Return to Step 1 and Repeat
Building a steady supply of good web traffic takes time, just like building any business. Doing steps 1 to 5 will take anywhere between a few weeks and a few months. By the time you have got to this step you will have learned a lot about better search engine placement and what works for your website. Look at your Google Analytics and see where your visitors are coming from and what they are doing when they arrive. Learn from this and go back to step 1. Repeat until you are make enough money to retire.
